Arrival

With only the fewest hiccups, all 28 of us have arrived in Gulfport, Mississippi. It is 89 degrees at 1:40 p.m., with a heat index of 105! We are sitting down at the Mellow Mushroom pizzeria for our first meal of the day since arriving at BWI at 6 a.m. We've been discussing how the insanely hot Baltimore weather last week truly helped us acclimate in preparation for the trip.

The camp holds an orientation each Sunday night, so we still don't really know much yet: we found our dorm rooms and the bathrooms but havent yet discovered where the showers are. (We've heard that they are near the cafeteria where we'll be making our bag lunches tomorrow morning.)

In the meantime, we are focusing on building relationships. For me, that meant admitting that I desperately needed a coffee--and having a friend not only go find our waitress and order it for me but pay for it, too...

"I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward." (Mark 9:41)

Brian, thanks for the coffee. God, thanks for Brian...

  1. Not only did you get a cup of water, but there was caffiene and sugar in it!

Good luck in the heat! The rain on Saturday here cooled things down a bit but we're back in the 90s again this week.
